Homeownership after RV Life

So I own a home now. Well, technically, the bank owns it, and I make payments. For the first couple of weeks it was very challenging to spread out into more than one room. I was keeping most things in the living room. I mean, my last residence – my tiny home on wheels – had floor space about the size of a yoga mat. I could be working at my desk / dinette / arts & crafts table, stand up, pivot, reach for coffee, reach into the refrigerator for half-and-half, do all the coffee-fixin’, pivot, sit back down and continue working. Nearly everything was within reach except my bed and the bathroom. At under 5′ tall this was not a problem for me, and it was super simple to clean!

This is not as easily cleanable, but now I can have friends over! I can have friends again! This was the initial configuration. Every week I decide I need to move something around.

I have an office room (still filled with boxes), a bedroom, a kitchen that I have to get up and walk to for coffee and meals. It’s bizarre having to get up and walk around each time I need something! And I’m beginning to spread out and fill in some of the empty spaces. I look forward to keeping a lot of the space empty – freedom from clutter and miscellaneous acquisition of nonsense – physical and mental. Bookshelves. I need more bookshelves. It’s also impressive (to me) that I actually had so much STUFF in a small RV.

Sparsely furnished bedroom

I’m overwhelmed a bit by the weed farm in the backyard. I filled up four large black plastic garbage bags last night after work. Weeds and leaves and twigs. Oh my! I sprayed myself with two kinds of herbal bug repellent. It seems they think it’s an attractive perfume. At least I had my ankles covered this time – socks, boots, long sleeves, hat. Bugs LOVE me. I do not love them, and the bites are so itchy! I can do this. I can pull weeds and survive the swarms. Actually, as I type this I feel itchy, as if they’re still on me.

More later, as I pull together this home, room by room, plants, weeds, tables, chairs, spaces.
